Back at the beginning of the year, I talked about 6 political races that would take center stage this year…one of those being the Virginia Gubernatorial election to succeed term-limited Gov. Bob McDonnell(R). Well…if a new Christopher Newport University poll says anything, it’s going to be a nail-biter come election time. Results are as follows:
- In a head-to-head battle between former DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe and current Va. AG Ken Cucinelli, McAuliffe leads 33-30 w/31 percent undecided
- If outgoing Lt.Gov. Bill Bolling mounts an outside challenge, McAuliffe & Cucinelli would be tied 27-27 w/Bolling drawing around 9 percent of the vote
If anything, this election will likely hinge on whichever side has the better GOTV organization and whether the turnout matches that of 2012 or 2009; if it’s the former, chalk the advantage to McAuliffe…if it’s the latter, however, Cucinelli might have the advantage. If Bolling enters the race, however, all bets would be off.
