Thoughts From The 2012 USGP…   Leave a comment

(1)Great race…of course, most Formula 1 races are just that, great races, but seeing them back in the United States for the first time since 2007 should serve as a reminder to racing fans that not everything revolves around NASCAR in this country…

(2)The Circuit of the Americas is without a doubt a world-class racetrack and served as a great venue for F1’s return to the U.S. With its’ elevation changes and track features borrowed from other great F1 circuits(examples include: Silverstone’s Becketts-Maggetts-Chapel sequence, the Austrian A1 Ring’s Sebring-Ostpuffkurve & Istanbul Park’s Turn Eight complex), it definitely leveled the playing field some and gives Austin, Texas something else they can crow about, besides Austin City Limits & South-by-Southwest.

(3)Considering Bruton Smith’s recent remarks that Formula 1 wouldn’t succeed on its’ return, all I can say is that maybe he just needs to shut the hell up and concentrate on running that little bullring down in Charlotte Charlotte Motor Speedway instead of worrying about other racetracks and how they do…then again, most of my attention Memorial Day Sunday is focused on 2.5-miles of central Indiana blacktop instead of that Charlotte-area bullring…

I’m sure there’s some more thoughts but those will suffice…for now anyway. 😉
