Can The American Two-Party Process Save Itself? (Pt.1)   1 comment

Booman Tribune: How To Save The Right From Itself

Washington Monthly: How To Save The Right From Itself

note: both articles are the same; they were just posted at different locations by Booman Tribune’s Martin Longman

As I read the article above, two questions come up to the surface:

  1. Can the Republican Party save itself from the vitriol and fear that is the Tea Party?
  2. Does their current struggle portend a struggle within the American political system on the whole?

For what it is worth, I would say that, to the first question: unless the GOP can figure out a way to extricate itself from the Tea Party, they’re doomed in the future as a national party. As to the second question…that’s where I disagree with Mr. Longman’s analysis and that is what I plan to explore in more detail later on this week; suffice it to say, the reasons why I disagree are two-fold: the structure of American federal elections and the two-party process itself that has so evenly divided American politics for over a century now.
