The one thing both countries have in common are the moves to “kill” net neutrality..the difference: in Russia, Vlad the Bigot is the one tightening the screws on press freedoms and the Internet; in the U.S., voters have had the opportunity to support candidates & policies promoting an open internet/net neutrality and have rejected them multiple times.

Putin quietly signed a new law requiring popular online voices to register with the government, a measure that lawyers, Internet pioneers and political activists said Tuesday would give the government a much wider ability to track who said what online.
